The juxtaposition of the Dark Ages with the modern PIC offers a useful reminder of how anti-enlightenment, anti-science, and pro-magical thinking/sorcery the idea of human cages is. We like to believe we’re not medieval. But we have plagues and torture chambers and mass societal irrationality, perpetuated by a tiny rich elite, just like they did in the Dark Ages.
